Make a Career out of Languages: Focus on Interpreting and Translating at Languages Fair Expolingua Berlin

Berlin. Whether in a global corporation, a publishing house, at an international conference
or on a film set, varied and exciting careers working with languages are to be found
everywhere. ‘Interpreting and Translating’ take centre stage this year’s Expolingua Berlin.
From the 20th – 22nd November, those interested in a career in languages can find detailed
information at the ‘Russisches Haus der Wissenschaft und Kultur’ in Berlin-Mitte.
There are many career opportunities in the field of languages: one important employer, for
example, is the European Union. And the demand for specialists with a flair for languages
is on the increase. The European Commission’s Directorate General for Interpretation is
urgently seeking new talent and is highlighting the career opportunities for German
interpreters at Expolingua Berlin.
Marco Benedetti from the European Commission’s Directorate General for Interpretation
says: “The reinforcement of our team in all languages presents a huge challenge as many
qualified interpreters will be due for retirement in the near future. For German alone, we
are looking for more than 100 interpreters over the next 10 years.” At the fair, visitors can
seek advice directly from the Directorate General for Interpretation’s booth.
In total, around 200 exhibitors from 30 countries will present information about foreign
language learning and teaching. Exhibitors include national and international language
schools, language travel agencies, exchange organisations, as well as embassies,
cultural institutes, tourist boards and publishers. A high point is the extensive seminar
programme, which is open to all visitors. You can also test out your foreign language skills
on the mini language courses.
The fair attracts school and university students, trainees and those wishing to
pursue language-related further education, as well as teachers, professors,
translators, interpreters and all those interested in languages and cultures.
